That thicker head gasket should fix your gasket problem. But you could consider making a copper sheet head gasket thick enough to restore the compression. If that’s not for you get the head TIG welded before skimming. When all that is done, why the heck did the engine get so hot in the first place.

A warped head can cause the cam(s) to bind. Make sure it’s pulled down straight on the milling machine before it’s refaced. It will spring back until it’s pulled down on the engine block. Thicker head gasket will restore the compression ration.
