The EGR inlet port on my small Fiat diesel has the same area as the entire exhaust manifold. It literally gets more gas than the turbo. No surprises, it clogs up the inlet manifold. Power below 2000 rpm is sluggish then it switches on to about 3500 where all diesels fall away. It feels like an electronic limitation and it causes driver to use more revs than necessary.

My Fiat 16V 1.3 diesel had been used almost always around town. Consequently, the inlet manifold was seriously clogged. It took 2 days soaking in NAOH to clean it out. The soot emissions must have been awful.
