  1. The Wankel has such a high exhaust temperature it could be used to drive a turbo compound system and get useful power from it.

  2. We should be looking again at piston ported two stroke diesels. They run clean with today’s injection systems. Also look at opposed piston engines even the Deltic. There are no cylinder heads so two cranks don’t cause a weight penalty. The intake piston reaches TDC 15 degrees before the exhaust piston so you get a long dwell time and a longer power stroke than compression stroke.

  3.  @matthewklein9225  The Wankel is definitely not as good as any piston engine. The Liquid Piston X has the same efficiency or better than a regular piston engine.

  4. All engines use oil. Four strokes throw away the toxic used oil every few thousand miles. Two strokes burn it but that’s cleaned by the catalyst and they don’t create the nasty stuff that has to be appropriately disposed of. The Rotax ETECH is my personal favourite. It beats competing four strokes on every metric.
