There is another type of two-stroke that uses a normal wet sump and no airflow through the crankcase. Detroit and Cat diesels had exhaust poppet valves in cylinder head with inlet ports at bottom of the stroke. A blower fed air through the engine. Opposed piston engines have no cylinder head. Air flows into ports above one piston BDC. Exhaust leaves from the opposite piston at the same time. This also needs a blower.
