  1. Old Timers may remember oil being sold at gas stations in quart glass bottles had a green tint. When the attendant checked your oil he would often take a “short stick” reading to sell a quart. Back in the day when detergent oil became available, some folks preferred non-detergent because this allowed a “crust” to build up in the engine. Auto test experts like Uncle Tom McCahill held this philosophy.
