  1. I was stationed at the 4780th Hospital at Perrin Air Force Base in Texas from 1965-1967. This was the home of the 4780th Air Defense Wing. Primary mission was training for F102 pilots. Nearby Lake Texoma was used for training in water survival skills. 17 astronauts were trained at this facility. To give you an idea of how media coverage of events has changed, the only knowledge that most of us at the USAF Hospital had of the progress of the Vietnam War was from a monthly Commanders Call where we were shown film footage of the war in Vietnam. Mostly flights of B52s carpet bombing dense Vietnamese jungle.
