  2. Having ridden Amtrak from LA to Chicago several times in the past ten years, its safe to compare it to an overstaffed Greyhound bus with food service. Historical accounts of the same trains before Amtrak show first class and professional levels of service. Check out YouTube to see the trains of Europe, Japan and China. A serious lack of pride and professionalism pervades Amtrak from the highest levels down. All Aboard!

  3. steyn17 In the US the East Coast has the better Amtrak service because of the population density. I have ridden the cross country version of Amtrak several times over the past ten years. It should be privatized and charge the real cost of service. The experience is similar to riding a Greyhound bus and only provides comfort to people living in nostalgia of railroading in the good old days. I rode the real cross country trains of the 50s era and what now exists with a government subsidy is pathetic.

  4. Generalissimo Reply Auto unions have nothing to do with Amtrak. Cross country Amtrak service exists for political reasons and nostalgia for the good old days of railroading.
