douglas rodriguez more than fifty years ago the average investor bought dividend paying stocks with the idea of building a nest egg built on cash flow in retirement. The current feeding frenzy is fed by promises of future consistent growth in stock valuation. This valuation is eroded by fees and commissions paid to those who market and sell the investments. The salesmen are always out to benefit themselves first.

Decades ago a small investor bought a stock and held onto it because it paid a dividend. Starting in the eighties the concept of buy low sell high took over and the Market became a feeding frenzy where your retirement account could lose 30% of its value in a few weeks. In the 90s future investors were shown projections of annual growth of 8% or more per year until retirement. The upside is if you live long enough and make no withdrawals you too can become a millionaire.
