  1. I guess I never understood why the F-111 remained an 'F' aircraft. I guess the SAC bomber was relabeled the FB-111, but why did it never adopt something like A-111? Was the 'F' just a hangers-on from the TFX program and the Navy proposal? Because of the tragedy, my mind always drifts towad the TSR.2 when the F-111 was pitched to the RAF. I don't think anyone would have considered the TSR.2 a fighter :). But it was labeled as a 'Strike' aircraft, for sure - 'Strike' has a nicer ring to it, than the aforementioned 'Attack' moniker. Maybe the S-111? No, that's reserved for ASW, like the S-3 Viking. Nevermind, just leave it as the F-111. Carry on.
