ATACMS is important because it's the best DEFNSMS.

I remember this! I saw a clip from the Daily Show making fun of the beret as being "something for the army to do since there are no more wars to fight." That was June of 2001.

And as I say this I now crave the 1990s candy bar called ATACMS that exists only in my head.

Hi Ryan! Thanks for featuring in tonight's video on my channel! Sorry your audio got all weird– it didn't sound like that until it was uploaded to YouTube, but lots of people have commented their appreciation for the collaboration.

They’ve had this problem for centuries. In imperial times, Jewish children were sent to the army to be tortured into converting to Orthodoxy; later it was simply encouraged for their fellow soldiers to murder them. This led to a fair amount of mass desertions in the Russo-Japanese War; one of many, many factors in the Japanese victory.

I didn't know you wore a Magen David, but thanks for explaining. As both a Jew and a YouTuber specializing in Jewish studies, I see way too many Christians wearing one in a manner meant to condescend or shame us. You've never seemed like that kind of guy, and I'm glad to hear that it has a special meaning to you that's really something you engage with in a knowing and meaningful way.

My uncle was not quite three years old when penicillin was released to the public. It saved his life soon after. Thanks for this more long-form historical video; can't wait to see where else these kinds of videos take you...

Recruiting prisoners worked so well for the Battle of Fishguard.

I woke up to a siren on my block before dawn. There were three in the morning and I didn't think about it afterwards; unfortunately rocket attacks are something that simply happens from time to time and it didn't occur to me I to check the news. It also didn't occur to me that it was the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War. I'll just say that this is the worst surprise attack since 1973 if not worse. I'm alone in my apartment, but everyone I've texted who lives with friends and family has said the mood is one of absolute fury. People feel as if the Israeli government has completely abandoned them (and they were already pretty angry). I've never experienced a collective feeling on this scale, either in Israel or in the US where I grew up. The word that keeps popping up in my head is "Tet."

People who worship A-10s tend to be the same people whose understanding of air power ends at about 1990.

I have a more general question about the war: in a technological environment where both sides can always see what each other is doing, how do militaries maintain the element of surprise? Clearly Ukraine was able to do so in the latest counteroffensive, but only because they were fully aware of where the Russians were committing their resources. Why didn’t that apply both ways?

@DonFahquidmi No, but this video did make me seek out a Reggie Bar. They're back.
