  1. Interestingly, Israel's strengthened military position after the crisis really began to undermine Ben-Gurion in Israeli politics. He could have remained Prime Minister forever owing to his position as the founder of the country, but his own political allies became much more frustrated with his continued militaristic posturing, as they (rightly) felt it was getting in the way of domestic priorities. This eventually led to his ouster in 1963.
