  1. I'm from Pasadena where addresses start at 1 but it's always determined by the distance from the main street, even if the street you're on never goes near there. So I grew up at #765 even though the street was only three blocks long. It gets crazier because there was always an 8-number gap between each house, so you'd go from 765 to 773 to 791. But then I moved to San Francisco where the street number always starts at 1 no matter where the street is.
