Language is rarely decided by academics or politicians. It is shaped by how the people use it....or not. Now you are well informed, you decide.

@RockinEnabled France, over the past 50 years or so, has established quite strong control over the "national language", fighting any local dialects and promoting one approved pattern for everyone. Today the strongest differences you can hear is just accenting on different vowels in the north and south (and of course Breton). I don't think academics still keep enough credit today to do those things. This is old fashion thinking, and as we see here, even politicians are not really supportive for this notion.
