Was here when the title was just "Migrant Pushbacks YT" 👻

It isn't the state's job, but it is the state's job to not actively make it harder to integrate. I worked at a convenience store that also handled immigration papers (just Finland things) during the start of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine during which time lots of Ukrainian refugees came to my city. The city shoved all of them into a suburb that was an hour bus ride from the actual city with no resources, no hospital, no bank, and an already extant drug crisis among the locals. If you put a large amount of people into the exact environment that locals become criminals too, don't be surprised when the people you shoved into the criminal factory also become criminals.

@veritaspk Europe ought to ally with itself. The European economy already throws huge weight around in relation to worldwide legislation and economy, it's time we have military independence.

Besides moral concerns about shoving people into internment camps for months to years, this overall just seems really ineffective and expensive with even a bit of thought. Like an idea that was come up with via emotion and just wanting "a solution", any solution as long as it seemed like a solution.
22
@patriknordin2274 > should be Why? Whatever happened to striving for energy independence?
21
Sort of regardless of what the actual situation is, I find it wild that some people have acted like it's basically impossible for him to be sick or it to be "oh how convenient" or pure propaganda but like. Let's be real here, the dude is about 70 years old. Anyone at that age can get basically any disease at any moment and die. Just because he's powerful and has access to great doctors doesn't mean he's magic.
21
@Eyeameun Let me buy you a trampoline to make those leaps of logic a little easier.

Sometimes when foreigners complain about the French "whining" and that even the raised age wouldn't match their country's age... I think those people are mad at the wrong thing. Be mad your state has got it's priorities worse. Be mad that you're having to work until you only have a couple years left to enjoy life. Don't be mad at people who demand better.

Here's the thing. Am I super comfortable with the idea with a more federal EU with an EU army? No. Do you know what I'm way less comfortable with? US military bases and forces on European soil. Especially with how unstable the US proves itself to be yet again with constant swings in foreign policy. I would rather ally with my fellow European nations than with Americans or the Chinese.

Fair point but he is getting older by the day just like anybody and the best healthcare in the world won't stop an elderly man from getting a deadly disease.

I don't see how being pro-Israel disqualifies someone from being right wing?
6
Why is there an entire party for motorists, what 💀

Funny that Putin decided to announce this on global Alzheimer's awareness day

The city shoved all of them into a suburb that was an hour bus ride from the actual city with no resources, no hospital, no bank, and an already extant drug crisis among the locals. Especially in Sweden it's stupid to feign surprise when you shove all the foreigners into the worst possible circumstances at the same time and then they don't turn out as perfectly integrated citizens whatever that means.
4
On the other hand, Poland has said that they will back up Hungary within the EU whatever happens.
4
"common sense" to send people to countries where they potentially have never lived or haven't lived in decades, who are legally citizens, just based on their ethnicity is common sense?
4
No, even if it worked out and was somehow justifiable that's what broke Finland's effort in the winter war. We defended fine and got our land back, but once we started moving into the Russian SSR and lost there we had to give our land back to them in compromise. There's no time for delusions of grandeur in conflict.

All ideals go out of the window with Germans when it comes to sweet sweet natural gas 😋 (an issue with multiple parties)

I wish someone could tell me why right wing populists always have horrible haircuts. Him, BoJo, Trump, Milei, Epler, etc
2
It's an easy speculation to pull off when these politicians are all elderly. In the case of Trump, didn't he actually like almost die from covid?
2
I love how every reply to you acts like it would only impact refugees or fresh immigrants and not citizens based solely on their perceived ethnicity
2
Those winter is coming ads are so sad. Like imagine getting paid to make this stuff.
2
It wouldn't be the least bit surprising since, you know. Transnistria.
1
God I wish they would. I know they're not really considering, but I still wish they would.
1
We wouldn't need to worry about what Trump thinks about Ukraine if most of Europe actually got off their ass and helped Ukraine from the jump but all of us have dropped the ball especially the big players like Germany have been too high off natural gas to actually do anything.

Prigozhin is definitely digging himself a grave. At the end of the day, he's doing everything with the Russian state's permission and he's biting the hand that feeds him, hard. Assuming the Putin regime survives the war in it's current state, I'm sure Prigozhin will be getting a free non-consensual skydiving lesson from a tall building as soon as possible.

I mean I'd wait and see how Brexit actually happening (In practice, not in theory) will affect the attitude towards a potential Quitaly.
1
Wait why are we opening the EU borders at all now? Cause that seems like a guaranteed way to get that second wave? I am at least happy that we're still restricting travel from infectious places (Especially Russia, since we in Finland share a border and we get lots of Russian tourism and I wouldn't want our progress ruined) but why not restrict from the UK?

I wish for nothing more than housing to stop being an investment, companies to be banned from owning residential property and the outlawing of owning residential property that you don't live in. But that's a fantasy world, I live in a neoliberal hell.
1
@NLJeffEU Owning any more houses than you live in is too much.
1
@amohamed4969 "the question is, do the rich people stop other people from getting rich?" Yes, yes they do. Not always intentionally as if it's an evil, but it's impossible for everyone to be rich. The economy in it's current form doesn't run without a working class and everyone having wealth would not work.

Amazon's big money is in it's web services, not online shopping
1
US lefties now stay scrambling to defend Russia because agreeing with the west (but also Eastern Europeans but who gaf about us right) is unacceptable.
1
@ThatOneGuy7550 Objectively wrong, TLDR uploaded a video about UK financial inequality literally 5 days before this video.

It is mentioned towards the end but yes, I suspect a big reason for the Finns Party's failure in the EU election to be annoyance of their core voter base with them turning around and doing everything against what they promised once they got into government with the economically right National Coalition party. Keep in mind; a lot of their voters are working class and now they're in government with the NCP forcing austerity on working class people and handing out free money to their corporate friends.

They didn't actually say "woke" in a German manifesto did they (please tell me they didn't)

Saying that Sweden's neighbours like Finland have been in "complete lockdown" at any point is ridiculous. Even saying we've locked down non-completely is a bit strong. People have been encouraged to work from home, restaurants etc offer only takeout/delivery and businesses have implemented stronger hygiene measures. Barely any noticeable change in life. The capital region's border was shut for non-essential business for the time required for the infection rate to even out between the capital and the rest of the country. Wow, so draconian.
