Wtf, why is Ford in East Asia getting these modern interiors meanwhile the brand new Ford Kuga interior looks like a 2016 car
146
This big luxury minivan segment is mostly popular in SE/East Asia, BUT interestingly enough, here in Finland which is one of the few countries where Maxus brand cars are imported, we're getting the electric Maxus Mifa 9 soon which will probably be the only market entry of it's sort in all of Europe. I can't think of a single other brand bringing anything like it.
62
I'll admit the front looks a bit unfinished proportions wise and it clearly should have been a Liftback (especially with such a narrow opening) but I can't help liking it regardless.
57
I didn't know until the intro to this video that this was originally a Lynk & Co concept. Now makes sense why Zeekr styling looks like Lynk & Co, lol
54
Huawei's car adventures are a bit confusing to me with how the Luxeed S7 and the Stelato S9 looking almost completely identical with only very minor differences, yet the first is in collaboration with Chery while the second is in collaboration with BAIC.
39
The exterior is pretty bland and generic but the interior is wild for a compact SUV, or any car for that matter. Cool that they're willing to try new stuff.
35
Although Chery might've not in general penetrated the European market nor probably will they without an EV focus, an Italian company does sell Chery vehicles under two different brands, DR and Sportequipe and they seem to be doing decently well in Italy for an unknown marque.
26
Lidar integration is still not there, has a Taxi look like the Volvo EX90. I'm sure it'll eventually get better, though. Front radar took a while not to be intrusive, at first they were just black blocks in the grille.
21
6:12 Everything else has already been said about this car so let me compliment something small, I really really appreciate how simple the soft top mechanism is. A lot of modern soft tops have way too many different flaps that move in all sorts of directions with really complicated and fragile hinges, hydraulics etc. The single pair of flaps this has that hide the mechanism move in one direction, and it still looks elegant.
18
1:30 I would add the Lamborghini LM002, in the front. Still, I think it's pretty cool and would be interesting to see in the Australian market since Haval is already there.
13
I think the rear could be easily improved by simply making the taillights either narrower or thinner. They're just too big, imo. Otherwise the design overall works well.
11
7:17 It might not be a powerhouse, but it's still more powerful than the noticeably heavier (and more expensive) Dacia Spring / Renault K-ZE.
11
The exterior is a bit multipla-y, although strangely I kinda like it? But anyway, the main thing with this car is the inside and seriously!!! Why can't other cheap cars have lovely colours like this! They can still be a cheap material like you said it's hard plastic, but the seats have the unique armchair-esque pattern, and the colour combination is lovely and modern. Why should cheaper cars be all grey and black?
10
Something that wasn't mentioned but I noticed in the back seat portion, the leg angle looks great compared to some electric hatchbacks of this size, where the batteries being in the floor can cause you to sit with your knees at your ears. I think it looks fine, albeit maybe they tried a bit too hard with trying to give it an identity. Not a huge fan of the whole everything in a screen business, but that's business as usual these days unfortunately, the Minis have that too. Although some Europeans (like the mentioned Renault 5) are adding buttons in addition to screens.
10
Hearing that Pininfarina nicked the design off LR/RR fort this isn't that surprising come to think of it, because Pinin hasn't exactly been original lately, great example also being the Model B concept they designed for Foxtron which has pretty obvious inspirations.
7
Overall the design isn't very special but I like the very slim taillights, front is a bit too GV60/Polestar 4 blend for me though.
6
The Tesla Model X and Y are sold in China too, aren't they? I'd think so if the 3 and Y are made there too. So seems weird HiPhi would name their SUVs X and Y as well.
6
@LaurinKramer The spring is actually a pretty good comparison, because the spring was originally a chinese market cheap EV. But (before incentives) it tripled it's price from the original model (Renault K-ZE) because of how much they had to rework it for it to be allowed onto the European market. The price for this Changan would similiarly rise a lot if it could be redesigned.
5
I can't wait till LIDAR integration gets better, It's quite intrusive here and looks afterthought-y for what is otherwise a good looking design. But it was similiar with early front radar in the early 2010s. Same goes for the Volvo EX90 roof hump that looks like a taxi sign.
5
Unfortunately impossible in Europe or the US due to safety regulations.
4
I wouldn't have expected to hear this referred to as a sedan, the body shape, the height and the lower black segments definitely make it look more like a soap bar SUV
4
Ford did that with the Ford B-Max MPV, they just put the B-pillar into the sliding rear doors and it latched into place when the doors closed. I assume Zeekr did the same.
4
You could maybe say that about the Jetour Traveller but not this.
4
I do wish BYD at some point will give up putting "Build Your Dreams" on the tailgate of their cars, it's just tacky and too much. Otherwise a good tail end for a nice little ev.
4
@CRhodesDesign Yes the Honda E is small, but it's double the weight, triple the price and 60cm longer compared to this Changan. So it's not as small and nowhere near as cheap. Of course Honda E/Mini SE etc size cars are possible, but not the price of this Changan. Dacia Spring also had to go through extensive redesigning under the skin to be allowed on the European market and it tripled the price in that process compared to it's Chinese market base car.
3
More like the C5X
3
I'm a bit confused by Geely's designs, in the sense that the rear lights flanking the badge are clearly borrowed from the Zeekr X, while the Zeekr 001 looks like a Lynk & Co. Why share design elements across these supposedly different brands like that?
3
This looks like something that'd be popular in Dubai
3
Unfortunately impossible in Europe or the US due to safety regulations.
3
Folding steering wheel in a sports car for interior space? What? WHY?
3
Exterior design wise I definitely preferred the Denza X/N8. The front end on the N7 looks outdated and the rear looks identical to a Porsche Macan or Panamera ST, which doesn't match the front end at all. I thought the X/N8 was an unexciting but somewhat unique and elegant design in comparison.

@louiszhou5301 It's not quite Norway, but it's speeding up fast. Diesel prices have gone through the roof way past gasoline, so people are dumping diesel fast and hopping onto BEV and PHEV. Some of the most sold new models are electric or have an electric option, ID.4 has far outsold the Golf for VW, etc. About no gas stations, that has seemingly been a big benefit to more rural car owners here as it's much more convenient to fill your car at home rather than drive out of the way to a far out gas station, as plenty of people live on rural roads in Finland. But distances are long, so it's good that charging infra has been stepping up fast since the start of this decade, plenty of businesses in even my small town are opening customer charging too. I could reasonably drive wherever now with modern batterypacks.
2
I think the only thing I really don't like is the Mustang Mach-E style doors... Please... Just put door handles on cars again. Other than that, I do like it and I agree with the sentiment at the start, finally a Zeekr that seems like a Zeekr! The first one really was just a lynk & co, even if this still has some of those design elements.
2
@EeeLife Yeah and I believe due to Ford patenting Model E, Tesla had to go with 3 instead funnily enough. So of course the Z is whatever and I understand their first models are going for XYZ, it's just interesting that their large and small SUVs have the same names as Teslas.
2
I actually disagree, I prefer the softer styling of this and the LS models to the L7's styling. Excited for these to come to Europe as IM is gonna come to my native market of Finland soon, too. SAIC did it right by introducing budget and volume models of all shapes and sizes first before attempting the premium market, unlike Dongfeng who brought Voyah first before anything else and Voyah is flopping hard.
2
NIO doesn't sell in Finland so definitely not coming here :D
2
I definitely prefer it's ocean series brother design wise, I like the Dynasty-series designs but somehow on this one the front looks very narrow, thanks to the perhaps too wide DRLs and I could do without some of the fake ventery at the back.
1
Never. The larger Renault K-ZE had to be redesigned so heavily under the skin to match European regulations that by the time it came here as the Dacia Spring, the price had almost tripled. These could pass as heavy quadricycles instead to skip all the safety regulation (like Twizy or Ami), but they're too heavy for that.
1
Looks a more complete and polished product than the rather poor Voyah Free, especially with it being free (ha) of that model's silly gimmicks like the pointless vertically moving screen. Wonder if Voyah will hang around Europe long enough for them to bring this model over.
1
3:45 BTW, why do EVs in China have two separate plugs for AC and DC charging instead of one combined plug for both, like European CCS or NACS?
1
Avatr's styling is odd for me, it's like there's a ton of elements there but because they're all very thin there's also tons of empty space of just plain sheet metal, so it's at the same time very empty and very busy at the same time.
1
@morganangel340 MG4 is a bit larger actually than the Dolphin, the dolphin has comparable interior space though.
1
@TobiasHinz1992 Unfortunately cars like this Changan are too heavy to fit into L7e, since they aren't designed with that in mind like the Ami, Microlino etc are.
1
Btw, can you say why China doesn't have a combined charging port for fast & slow charging? I've noticed in your videos that Chinese market cars need a big flap because the ports are next to each other instead of combined vertically like CCS.
1
I wish the rear lights weren't so huge, either slimmer or narrower please, but otherwise a great design
1
It is sold elsewhere as the Cupra Tavascan, mostly the same car with only minor tweaks to design. I guess the Cupra brand just doesn't exist in China so they sell it as VW.
1
"It looks like a SEAT" Well, that would be because the ID.Unyx is mostly a rebadged Cupra Tavascan 😁 I guess they don't sell Cupra in China and that's why they're selling it as a VW instead?
1
I doubt it's high on the priority list as it's not a China exclusive vehicle nor a fully Chinese brand either and it's already available outside China so they're not ahead of anyone with it either.
1
It would be interesting to see models like these in Europe, but the larger Renault K-ZE had to be redesigned so heavily under the skin to match European regulations that by the time it came here as the Dacia Spring, the price had almost tripled. These could pass as heavy quadricycles instead to skip all the safety regulation (like Twizy or Ami), but they're too heavy for that too.
1
@morganangel340 I thought Renault already left China?
