I do love a wagon and I'm no SUV hater but I don't rly see wagon in this, just crossover/SUV
28
12:00 Naaahhh as a past sedan owner, sedans are essentially useless for carrying any large items that aren't suitcases because the opening is by default an awkward shape and taking stuff out is a pain. Hatches and wagons for the win. I once wanted to pick up a used armchair for my mother and despite being almost 500l in volume the trunk couldn't take it due to the shape of the opening. You know what could? A first gen Yaris hatch.
17
I don't get it they shaped it like a hatchback, lifted it like an SUV but then gave it a sedan trunk, so it's large cargo capacity is as unusable as possible. I'm a bit confused by that part, when premium brands have been doing liftbacks that look like sedans for decades now.

Although I agree, let's not pretend a gas Chevy Traverse or something has any more character than this heap of junk
8
Wait, they are? I thought they were known for being really crappy plastic rebadges of chevys
6
How exactly does Nissan introducing the Juke/Kicks relate to them dropping the 240sx
6
@mrh3085 My favourite example is the BMW M5 somehow being heavier than a Tesla Model X 😂
4
"nearly all vehicles are bad investments" I never understood this attitude of cars as needing to hold value because do you expect to resell an old laundry machine too for most of the original value? I don't know...
4
Toyota might do their thing right when it comes to hybrids and gas cars, but with how resistant they've been to EVs as a whole (including anti-EV lobbying) it's no surprise that the bZ4x/Solterra/RZ are so, so, so far behind the times. They have literally no redeeming qualities and out of all EVs on sale there is no other reason to buy one other than brand loyalty.
4
I mean, to be fair you'd never be doing that besides on long road trips, in which case you should be taking breaks anyway
3
My first car was a big luxury sports sedan but after that I got a W168 A-class. It's a silly little egg and I absolutely love it. Not only is it ridiculously practical for its miniscule size it's got a ton of torque down low for something so small and the steering is responsive so despite the tall body I have the time of my life driving it.
3
I don't understand the design of this car, they gave it SUCH a long hood for the size of the car to where it kinda looks disproportionate and as a result of using space for the long hood the trunk is tiny and the back seats are literally unusable. I was just recently at a car show and there were so many tiny city cars there with bigger back seats than this, and since this was there too I could compare and try directly.
3
It's way easier to start making electricity yourself than refining petroleum if shit hits the fan.
2
I wouldn't be totally surprised if it also makes it here in Finland cause they brought the current/previous Camry here for the first time since the 90's and it flew off the lots for taxi companies and boomers.
2
Rear seat delete was only for the Morizo so they probably decided not worth making a different body shell for a 3-door variant for a run of 200. It's still a Toyota, after all.
2
@betteheadbettehead4800 Yup, in Europe where they have the CX60 and 80 instead, those two are different lengths, while in North America the 70/90 are the same size just with different names. Also the CX-70 is larger than a Merc GLS somehow despite being a two row lol.
2
To be fair it's mostly an illusion. Cars have become packed with more and more technology, safety and comfort features year after year which would justify a price raise and inflation does most of the rest of the work. In a lot of cases cars have really become cheaper as the years go by.
2
It's ridiculous and pointless, but tbh that was all Hummers since they became a civilian vehicle. The H1 had no business being on public roads, frankly, and then the H2 and H3 were Chevys with plastic larping trinkets for people with no confidence.
2
I wonder if GM is ever coming back to Europe. I believe they currently officially are in Europe but only for official Corvette imports and that's it.
2
Yeah no, Opel/Vauxhall now use the PSA 8-speed auto that's ubiquitous across the entire PSA lineup and that's now bleeding into some FCA cars too.
1
@sequencestephen They make a Jetta/Bora wagon for China but otherwise the VW wagons of this size everywhere else are Golfs
1
It's probably more realistic to say that PSA bailed out FCA to form Stellantis, given a majority of higher ups are from PSA and it's mostly PSA tech that's spreading to the old FCA brands rather than other way round. Sorta like how Daimler-Chrysler was a "merger of equals" but was steered by Mercedes.
1
Maybe Jettas have gotten better but my boyfriend has an '06 Jetta and it is legitimately the worst car I have ever driven. I don't know if the Golf of the time is also bad but I have also driven a Mk7 Golf and that was fantastic.
1
I might be a minority in the car "fandom" so to say who is happy to see sedans die off, I don't get that body style at all. Very few sedans look better than their wagon/hatch counterparts and they have trunks that you can only use for suitcases. I would much rather the crossover be the dominant body style than sedan. HOWEVER I do also lament the stateside death of the normal hatchback, agreed on that. There are still some options but not enough and the few non-crossover cars that are offered are sedans usually.
1
@bsmirnov I don't know why cooking oil would be any easier to have access to in a doomsday scenario than diesel. I suppose a mcdonald's is easier to break into than a refinery but most people won't be able to produce either of those.
1
@bsmirnov I don't think you'd get a very large yield without an orchard, an olive tree for some extra virgin to cook with is one thing but an engine that burns gallons to go a hundred miles is another.
1
@bsmirnov Yes, those are all oil plants, I don't know what your point is. If you have a giant farm full of those crops, then great!
1
It's fine to not like a car, obviously, but my biggest gripe with the criticism for the new Integra is that people say it's just a dolled up civic. Well duh, so was the old integra! They've always been that. The integra was never some special unique sports car, it was essentially a fancy Civic.
1
Well to be fair what is 31k now would've been 23k 15 years ago, inflation makes up for most of it and the 3k left I think is fair when you think about all the added refinement, tech and safety you get with a modern car in comparison.
1
@Hallowsaw Which is indeed true
1
16:14 One of VW's brands, Cupra is releasing an electric hot hatch really soon, but unfortunately no US import
1
I suspect Toyota's bean counters already regretted making the GR Yaris a unique body shell, so they decided to stick to sticking a body kit on the standard Corolla shell instead when making the GR Corolla.
1
Also the chademo fast charging port makes this really annoying to fast charge, given most charging providers are ditching the cables for that completely and obviously the US is going to NACS and Europe has it's own CCS. This is just outdated by now, but I guess if you really still want a new leaf, go for it.
1
Now if only the US got the wagon version of this...
1
They stopped selling the Polo in even Europe, soo...
1
It's a comfort spec engine
1
13:27 The analogy does actually work because bacon is bad for the environment since growing pigs for pork takes a ridiculous amount of water and other resources, not quite as bad as a steak is in wastefulness but still pretty bad.
1
@theclearsounds3911 What is it right now if not a car?
1
@theclearsounds3911 Probably a cultural difference then, sorry if I came across rude
1
I don't know how well it applies for the US, but given this is on a car platform it seems this was somewhat intended as a retro replacement for SUVs, especially the short wheelbase version. The SWB version has a HUGE trunk, obviously and here in Finland I see plenty driving around as just normal family vehicles, of course in addition to the cargo varians used by businesses. I suspect for the US they wanted to also aim it at the people buying 3-row SUVs who think minivans are lame but this is cool despite being a minivan.
1
@SarahnTuned I'm thinking the US entry of this car was also conceived during the COVID van camping boom that has quieted down a little bit now, and the range isn't that great for that in any case.
1
@billsmith5960 Yeah they're very different markets and I wasn't claiming so either. BUT the T7 Multivan (the cargo version is a rebadger Transit) while also on a car platform is on the Golf platform, this is on the ID.3/ID.4 platform.
1
It's the huge wheels and performance, lower spec models of the GV60 have noticeably better range so it's a question of if you prefer style and speed over range.
1
When the Ford Edge came to Europe for a bit a few years ago they had unpainted brake calipers from the jump with surface rust, and I could swear with multiple of your Ford reviews they've had unpainted driveshafts. What is it with Ford not painting raw steel parts?
1
I'd be curious to see your take on the full AMG version of this. I'm usually not a huge fan of the performance editions of normal cars, but since the GLS in any guise is super luxury and you can get those gigantic monoblocks either chrome or black on the AMG GLS it'd be my pick if I had that kinda money.
1
15:30 We'll have to wait and see about the Magneto concept but the Jeep Recon is coming first pretty soon which is a less fender-y and slightly less tear into pieces-y electric wrangler. I prefer the box on wheels styling of that over the Wrangler, but it is tamer it seems.
1
Would it be possible to remove the bumperettes? It would have a much cleaner look especially at the back without the old fashion USDM regulation bumperettes on top of the actual bumpers, but I don't know if that'd be road legal without them. I'd like to know.
1
That 4111kg weight is ridiculous lmao I love it. European regulations state you need a truck license for anything above 3500kg and that's 3500kg total weight with maximum load. Not curb weight.
1
11:30 What? They still make pushrod engines?
1
@SarahnTuned How about 2-cylinders? Did Fiat ever sell the 500L or 500 with the two cylinder 100hp engine?
1
Of course, but most of those are body-on-frame unlike the Maverick
1
This thing costs more than a god damn G-wagon here in Finland. Toyotas in general are overpriced vs. rivals here but when their off roader costs more than luxury alternatives that's just nuts. Starts at 135k USD. 182k for the first edition.
1
8:02 If that's weird... The new/current Focus (Which you Americans sadly don't get, it's awesome) has cylinder de-activation in a 1.5 3-cylinder.
1
There are cars with different body styles sharing the same name yet Mazda removed the 3rd row, slightly tweaked the bumpers and gave it an all new name lol. Europe has the CX60 and CX80 instead of North Americas CX70/90 but at least the 60/80 are different lengths. Also this is absolutely ginormous for a two row, it's larger than a Merc GLS.
1
I mean, you get the GR Yaris which is in a sense more special since it's a bespoke body shell while this is still based on the Corolla. But of course, this has more power and four doors, so depends on what you want.
1
It will be but only once it actually exists. Production is currently expected in 2024.
1
14:04 It would be cool if like now that Peugeot-Citroën owns FCA they could incentivize Alfa Romeo dealers and the like to enter the US market and bring cars like the C5X or 3008 to the states. Of course, I wonder if they are to US regulation spec?
1
@JG-s5j They called the Daimler-Chrysler a "merger of equals" too, doesn't mean it's true. FCA brands have been put on PSA platforms, the CEO and majority of the board is from PSA and FCA seeked the merger to bail themselves out from financial trouble, initially with Renault, then Peugeot (I'm no expert but this is my justification for not trusting the 50-50 talk)
1
@TheNismo777 Opel hasn't been in GM ownership since 2017, it was bought by PSA (and since PSA merged with FCA, now Stellantis) and now that the Insignia is dead, all their cars are on Peugeot platforms (except the Movano which is a rebadged Fiat).
1
17:45 I'm sure plenty of people have already said this but an N version is right around the corner, actually :D
1
No back seats is only for the Morizo special edition which is a run of 200 cars, no point making a 3-door body shell for 200 cars unless they charge waaaay more for these.
1
9:50 You're like the only car person I've seen who admits to liking the Juke, lol. Anyway, the current gen Juke (exists outside the US) takes the old Juke's look and improves it but keeps the uniqueness. Available in a fun bright yellow with partial yellow interior, too. However the newer generation Juke doesn't get AWD either, so in that sense we're missing out on at least something from the Kicks. Manual is available tho.
