I don't know how well it applies for the US, but given this is on a car platform it seems this was somewhat intended as a retro replacement for SUVs, especially the short wheelbase version. The SWB version has a HUGE trunk, obviously and here in Finland I see plenty driving around as just normal family vehicles, of course in addition to the cargo varians used by businesses. I suspect for the US they wanted to also aim it at the people buying 3-row SUVs who think minivans are lame but this is cool despite being a minivan.

@SarahnTuned I'm thinking the US entry of this car was also conceived during the COVID van camping boom that has quieted down a little bit now, and the range isn't that great for that in any case.

@billsmith5960 Yeah they're very different markets and I wasn't claiming so either. BUT the T7 Multivan (the cargo version is a rebadger Transit) while also on a car platform is on the Golf platform, this is on the ID.3/ID.4 platform.
