You're saying that as if the reason isn't that people are buying them. It's a cycle. People buy SUVs -> companies produce more SUVs -> people buy more SUVs. Regular everyday people enjoy the raised driving position and raised luggage space because most people have back and/or joint problems at some point in their lives, therefore it's nicer to not have to drop down into your car or bend down to load shoppings.

People enjoy the taller ride height because most people have joint and/or back pain at some point in their life, or just in general enjoy comfort. It's nicer to not have to drop down to your car or have to bow down to load luggage into your car. It's the reason those tall boxy "youth" cars of the 2000's were mostly bought by older people before small SUVs were common, they were easy to get in and out of.

I'm mostly confused about how "sportback" for Audi not that long ago used to mean that the car had a more practical shape and 5 doors, the A3/5 sportback refers and has always referred to the 5 door A3/5 and the TT Sportback concept was a 5 door TT. Now sportback means less practical?

Who would buy it though?

@JoeyLovesTrains It's not a legal requirement yet I don't think but a lot of European models especially more expensive models do put the hazards on if it detects that you're doing an emergency stop, it's not just an Audi thing.
