The thing about the Crown that's a huge drawback is that it could probably otherwise tempt some people away from buying a "coupe" SUV, IF it had a liftback, the styling wouldn't have to change at all since it already has a sloping rear end. However the trunk opening means that for carrying anything besides suitcases it's pretty much useless.

Often times EU market cars seem to have a delay when entering the US market for one reason or another

Alfa Romeo's executives are apparently pissed about that actually, since the Tonale was supposed to increase US sales but Dodge was allowed by the parent company to essentially take the Tonale and change almost nothing for a cheaper model.

I agree, however the crown's major disability in that regard is that unlike a similiar looking coupe SUV, the Crown has a sedan trunk which severely limits practicality whereas while Coupe-SUVs might not be as boxy they still have a large opening with easy through loading.

I suspect the Crown could have a bit of extra appeal if they simply put a liftback in it rather than a sedan trunk, that way perhaps it could've also enticed some people after that "coupe SUV" style vehicle. However with a sedan trunk, it's appeal is very limited due to the low practicality especially with such a poor opening.
