  1.  @illdeletethismusic  Volkswagen is selling the brand new Golf based multivan that is completely separate from the old transporter based one, that replaced the Sharan and explains why the ID.Buzz doesn't instantly need a 7 seater. (at least for Europe, where the multivan is sold and where the sharan was sold)

  2.  @mikefarrington7141  The ID.Buzz is meant not only for minivan customers but also for SUV and estate customers in the EV space, so that explains why there's a 2 row version at least for the European market as well as the brand new Multivan needing space to get 3 row customers in. Why it's taking so much longer for the US market though I don't know.
