@abstraqtphilosophy7357 If the USA threatens Mexico with military action whenever they do anything even slightly dissatisfactory to Washington, then yes. Russia rattled their saber at us even when we were neutral all the time.

"Russia has a reason to be paranoid" We (Finland) were invaded by Stalin in WW2 who clearly is admired by Putin, first of all, second of all, we have the second largest land border in Europe with Russia after Ukraine and Russia has made it clear that they have no problem launching full scale war with neighbouring countries that aren't in NATO, third of all, Russia has already in the past disseminated disinformation about systematic mistreatment of Russian born citizens in Finland which also proves they have no problem making up reasons for aggression. We have tried being friendly with Russia by staying neutral while our baltic neighbours joined NATO and doing friendly trade with Russia and what we got in response was threats of military action if we stepped out of line. Now it's clear we have every reason to be nervous.

This whole "poking the bear" narrative is ridiculous... It implies Russia is a non-sentient creature acting purely out of instinct with no self determination.

@vignetteorleans1631 The children from mariupol should have been taken to a safe place elsewhere in Ukraine where they can get food and care, not all the way to inner Russia by the soldiers who killed the children's parents where they are then raised as Russians and forced to hug the Russian soldiers in the anniversary concert. That's cultural genocide.

This was a bad debate. The Finnish MP defending NATO is not a good speaker for his cause, but on the other end Reiner Braun is an absolute clown. He yells about how Finland was oh so great at being neutral... Do you know where being neutral got us? Russia started saber rattling at us with threats of military action whenever we stepped out of the line even slightly! They've made it clear to us by invading Ukraine that they have no problem invading non-NATO neighbours. And then he goes onto the standard fantasy-pacifist line about negotiations... negotiations, as if negotiating a ceasefire would in ANY way de-escalate the situation. But I don't expect any good takes from Germans on Russia. In general, it seems they will do anything for that sweet sweet cheap gas, because they don't have any skin in the game being safe from Russia with a generous buffer of countries in between.
