The vast majority of CPC "mega projects" are merely poorly-planned and executed vanity projects. From the over building of high speed rail to the 3 Gorges Dam, all were the result of an insecure and weak minded government. I can only imagine the level of incompetentence on projects that aren't easily visible with the naked eye, like drainage systems.

More building, regardless of the destruction, means more GDP. This is economics with Chinese characteristics. Ghost cities, ghost trains, bridges to nowhere, etc, all adds to the CPC's bottom line. Just don't invest in any bonds to build them, the investors get nothing. Cheers.

The CCP is "officially" the Communist Party of China (CPC), I don't want the wumaos and little pinks to whine about semantics. It's all the same pile of garbage though.

@maroonknight you should really stop believing communist propaganda. The CPC (Communist Party of China) had detailed plans for construction of the 3 Gorges Dam back in 1955. The criticisms of the dam's design and location postponed it's start FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS. Every critique of the dam's design and location has proven correct, regardless of building materials or corruption. When it was finally approved in 1992, almost a third of the National People’s Congress abstained or voted against the project-an unprecedented sign of resistance. Like I said, China's "mega projects" are poorly planned and executed vanity projects resulting from an insecure and weak minded government. Shall we do the high speed rail next?
