  1. As many american generals have said, the Russians aren't 10 ft tall, the Chinese aren't 10 ft tall, and the Taliban aren't 10 ft tall. The reason they are overrunning the US backed regime is because the US backed regime is so weak. (corrupt etc.) With 20 yrs of war the economy is mostly opium farming/sales and war. Young men join the army because there are no other jobs available not because they want to fight and die for their corrupt overlords. For a while the US intended to leave a large contingent of "contractors" aka mercenaries, but they're just like the regular Afghan army, there to collect a paycheck not to fight and die for a corrupt regime. The one organization that is fighting hard is the Afghan intelligence agency (aka secret police). They know they will be executed if they surrender. As the situation gets worse for the US back regime, the leaders will be absconding with the funds used ot pay ordinary soldiers. Then the collapse will happen faster than the Taliban can march troops into the cities. Some might say the morale of the afghan army is poor or they have lost the will to fight. They never had the will to fight. Afghan soldier were paid a salary to kill other Afghans on the orders of their overlords. Once the money stops, the killing stops. They aren't surrendering because they are cowards, it was never "their" war.
