  1. Blinken's trip to Bejing is almost over. For a long time China was afraid the the US would force Pres Tsai of Taiwan to declare independence to trigger a proxy war with China. Blinken basically said the US does not support an independent Taiwan and at least in the near term there will be peace. Tsai's party after inviting Pelosi became extremely unpopular and they lost the nov 2022 local elections in a landslide losing 19 of 22 municipalities. There is a high probability the DPP would lose the jan 2024 national elections. The fear was that the US neocons seeing the prospect of provoking a proxy war slip away, would order Tsai to declare independence before the jan 2024 elections. But since the first military action by China would be blackade that blocks all semi-conductor shipments from Taiwan to the US, this might have disuaded the US from provoking the proxy war in late 2023 or early 2024. (Although Gordon Chang did predict a war in 2024).
