  1. The Canadian elections comming up. The US restarted negotiations with Meng's lawyers. Plead guilty, pay a big fine and get to go home. Meng refused this deal during Trump's last days. Both the Canadian and US govt knew China would retaliate by taking their own hostages. But the propaganda machine would say rule of law, she committed a real crime etc etc. The idea is to create an adversarial relation between Canada and China. Canada knew this, but had no choice but to follow Washington's orders. If however the Canadian public were to believe Meng's detention was unjust, it would motivate Canadian politicians to take a more independent view. Not likely to happen. But the NEOcons in the US now control foreign policy and want an economic war with China, which means removing as many of China's trading partners as possible. Having China retaliate against Canada economically is great for the NEOcons. Like Nord Stream 2, if Germany killed Nord Stream 2 the US would have won a major economic battle with Russia and those bearing the cost of the economic battle would be Germany. In the case of Meng Canada bears the cost, great for the NEOCons. The US justice dept now negotiating with Meng's lawyers are trying to give help Tradeau. But they won't give up enough to get Meng to accept, but the gesture is designed to draw thanks from Tradeau for "trying". The judge may in reality feel that Canada holding Meng is unjust. But there will be huge huge pressure to keep the crisis alive to further drive Canada and China apart. Justice or the rule of law doesn't apply here.
