  1. no styx they did not know pearl harbor was going to get hit. they thought the philipines, wake, and midway were going to get hit. they thought the japanese were to racially inferior to pull off a raid on pearl. carriers were not the most valued warship at the time. to the hidebound upper echelons of the navy they were a dilatants indulgence, maybe useful for scouting, but not much else (maybe transporting aircraft which is what some were doing at the time of pearl). the important ships were battleships. which is why they were at pearl. to send a message of strength to the japanese to deter them. had they any inkling that the japanese really could hit pearl they wouldve pulled back the capital ships and let the army aircorp defend the islands with their heavy bombers (like the tried to do in the philipines). it was loss of the battleships (by carrier borne aircraft) that forced the navy to adapt to carrier based naval warfare. im getting pretty sick and tired of the idiotic "they knew about pearl harbor" conspiracy. any attack on an installation wouldve been an act of war (which i do believe fdr wanted btw). no need to lose some of our most expensive an powerful naval assets to accomplish that. had they really expected pearl there wouldve been no capital ships at all there to lose.

  2. i was going to dispute that styx, but you make good points. certainly possibly restarting a cold war (not that one wasnt developing with china) is one of the worst things democrats have perpetrated on america. but OWEbama still did more structural damage to americas institutions. he accelerated the rot. how about we compromise and just say team OWEbama/biden is the worst (p)RESIDENTIAL duo in us history.
