if youre going to include regional bush wars and civil wars then ww1 didnt end. why even bother calling it ww2, just call it ww1 v2.0. or better yet, call the 20th century "the 100 years world war".

@hoilst actually no. because of treaty obligations war against poland was also war against the british and french empires. both of which were comprised of many, many non white europeans. what my argument boils down to is that it wasnt a global conflict until events ensured it would encompass the globe. race has nothing to to with it, and to imply it does is disingenuous and intellectually lazy.

@hoilst whos saying they dont count? i cant speak for others, but im saying the sino-japanese war is the sino japanese war. the global (ie world) war didnt not start until events set in motion consequences that would become global. the sino japanese war wouldve stayed a regional war had only those 2 combatants been involved. conversely, the global war was already global before either the ussr or the usa became embroiled. the moment germany invaded poland which set into motion retaliation by the british and french empires, the war became a global conflict.

@knutdergroe9757 you have to admit japan carried out its atrocities with a certain sadism. this is not to say there werent sadistic nazis, but the nazi process was more industrialized, less personal. not that this mitigates ether partys beastliness.

@rexjaru it was somewhat covered up by the allies (primarily at mccarthers behest) so as not to inspire a japanese nuremburg trial and leave some of japans leadership (especially the emperor) intact.

and also thought if they inflicted enough casualties in an invasion we would negotiate a peace. they understood us no more then we understood them.

NO, NO, NO! WW2 STARTED IN SEPT 1 1939 WHEN HITLER INVADED POLAND AND TOUCHED OFF A GLOBAL CONFLICT. if you count regional bush wars and civil wars, then ww1 never ended. so why would you bother even calling it ww2? im glad youre dealing with unit 731. so many other history sources ignore or gloss over its horror. you forgot a japanese favorite, "catch the baby on the bayonet" where a baby was torn from its mothers arms (or cut from her womb) and thrown in the air to be caught on a bayonet. barbaric.
