plus the need to settle old scores ran deep amongst the great powers of europe.

Comrade von Herpenderpf the feeling the war could be ended quickly with "one more big push" persisted into 1917. it amazes me it took those in charge that long to see the plainly obvious.

@matthiuskoenig3378 true. but, ironically, at that point no one believed it could be won in one big final push anymore.

"the only real enemy is war itself". truer words nr were spoken. re: motorized transport. all the great powers had at least some form of motorized transport be it regular or improvised (ie the taxis that 'saved the marne'). it was mostly used to transport troops and supplies from rail heads to areas near the front lines. so its use through enemy territory is unlikely. yes the albatross crashing into the very barn the protagonists are in is unlikely. as for crashing into the building instead of open terrain, the pilot simply may have had no choice as his damaged a/c may have lacked the control to avoid it. a/c did crash into builds. there a couple famous pics of central powers aircraft protruding from buildings into which theyve crashed. as far as continuing the attack when already being shelled, such attacks were often carried out dogmatically despite any indication of possible failure. see the battle gallipoli to see what i mean. its nice to see the gritty black and white photos brought into color realism in a way that ive seldom, if ever seen. its clear even from just the trailer that this movie immerses one in a ww1 milieux in a way beyond what even the 2 "all quiet on the western front"s achieved. most other ww1 movies depict a little slice, or a few slices whereas this movie seems to immerse you in ww1s horror. usually you see "heres the home front and/pr training", "heres the rear area (with or without brothels)", and "heres the front lines. isnt it horrible?" anyway, i cant wait to see it.

its a decent movie for what it is, but it did receive a bit of the over the top saving private ryan treatment.
