@Cyricist001 "more and more required by mandate" are you kidding??? they made it conscription. and sure, early on you could volunteer for the ss if you met the stringent requirements, or be drafted into the wehrmacht in whatever capacity it saw fit. and if you go by heinleins mindset, no it wouldnt. he was dead set against conscription. in his view, if society could produce enough volunteers needed to save itself, it simply wasnt worth saving and deserved whatever it got. doesnt get much more libertarian then that.

@ZAK31591 heinleins book doesnt have a pro war message. it has a pro soldier message. no one hates war more then those that have to fight it. that being said i love both the book and the movie. though my love of the movie is more for what of heinleins book verhoven put into it without really understanding it.

for sure. never known any authoritarian government, that encouraged its citizens to learn more. admitted a military debacle outright, instead of trying to cover it up, held its leadership responsible for said debacle, and actively encouraged volunteers to quit.

@Cyricist001 i could see why youd think that, but its not a collectivist mindset. it takes a free man to make such a decision. collectvists arents asked. theyre simply sacrificed as and where the governing body decides.

@dropit7694 absolute bs. there was no "forever war" in heinleins book. the entirety of the military geared for massive, sharp initial engagements to hurt the enemy so much as to want to come to the peace table. and we are in no sense living in heileins world. especially now with all the oppression in the name of a disease with a 99%+ survival rate. and they stole the election from the only man that tried to get us out of wars.

@SirSpence99 same here. i think this thinking that we can legitimately make the mid term elections beyond the most secure election in human history (honk, honk) is polyanna thinking. dems made it most secure once (twice 2018]? thrice [2012]? more?). whats to stop them from doing it again? the 1st one was needed, though it was badly subverted with pork for the donkey (and lets, be fair the pachyderm as well) due to the enforced lock down. the 2nd one? absolutely not. the third one? may be the end of us. yep. the donkeys seem to have elevated it to an art form. totally agree. it left the left their most dangerous weapon. which they used to great effect. and even with all that trump accomplished (certainly more then any president in my lifetime), he still failed in a great many things. ie national reciprocity. repealing gun control in general. serious reduction in the size of the government (which bit him in the ass later on). definitely getting us out of the middle east. etc. oh well. whatre you going to do?

@Cyricist001 the ss was technically not part of the wehrmacht and had its own recruiting and supply facilities. and it did resort to conscription as well. just ask the 4thss polizie division.

@Cyricist001 i never said it was voluntary at the beginning and i reference the strict requirements myself in another post. and it didnt change gradually. it was rather abrupt due to the course of the war on the eastern front.

@Cyricist001 uuummmm no. conscription for the army was introduced almost as soon as hitler took power. they even basically conscripted children into the hj and bdm. they conscripted all union members into one union under party control. hitler basically conscripted the entire country (except the church and rich industrialists) into bringing about hitlers ends. what are you talking about? its working now. our armed forces have been volunteer only since the draft was stopped in the 1970s. no ones disputing the value of "boots on the ground". not even heinlein. the book was his tribute to those boots on the ground (or PBI "poor bloody infantry" as it was styled then.

@Cyricist001 i dont think you can identify any one magic bullet that military doctrine is based on. as far as collectivist adopting conscription, it goes hand in glove with their ideology of people being integral part of the state and subject to the needs of the state. in the age of air mobility and 5th generation warfare, borders are not nearly as meaningful as in the past. ha, even could an invader ignore the usas ocean borders any invasion would be a nightmare given us culture. as yamato is credited as saying "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." thats not just hyperbole. it is a statement of facy whether he actually said it or not.

@SirSpence99 it shouldve been reached in the wee hours of nov 4th. i have no hope myself. and balkanization will be the absolute end of the american experiment. oh itll carry on in name, but not in reality. frankly im not sure its not in name only right now. its infuriating.

@SirSpence99 sure people will vote this time but so will a correspondingly amount of "people". and theyll have had 2 years to make the most secure election of all time look less ham handed then 2020. no more video of counters most securing ballots more them once. such a record turnout in fact that in many precincts it exceeded the number of eligible voters. i guess eager campaign workers can do wonders these days..... yeah, republians arent only dropping the ball. theyre drop kicking over the fence into the neighbors yard with their vicious pit bulls. they have the stink of controlled opposition at this point. possible. but people were already suffering at that point. and the lockdown made sense, at least on the surface. with what we knew (or thought we knew) at that time. and i think the lockdowns wouldve lasted as long as they have in any case due to rabid governmental power grabs and sheeple submission. it definitely was damaging to our economy. but that seems to be the intention at this point. a lot yes, but we still have all the judges he appointed (for all the good thats doing us), the trade deals he worked out, and a lingering bit of the international prestige he restored (for awhile anyway). and the wall that he built is still standing and cant be voted away, or unbuilt be executive fiat. i think any attampt at tearing it down would cause too much of an uproar if only for the cost of doing so as opposed to just letting it sit and languish. of course its illegal. everything creepy bejing jao bie dein does is illegal!!! hes the meat puppet of an illegal usurper regime! trump did fail. he was robbed. and he IS the best president in living memory. no one can take that away. they can just try to retcon belief in it. yes he had many failings and some of his progress has been undone. but he still accomplished a lot and was not only a speed bump to "progress" but a reversal for 4 precious years. just think how much worse things would be know without him. an acceleration that opened many eyes and awakened many a sleeper. whether that has any positive effect remains to be seen. i dont know about that. i guess it depends on what you mean by progress. back when the word meant something there were quite a few. teddy roosevelt springs to mind. so does woodrow wilson, but by another definition of "progress" if you catch my drift. it hindsight it seems obvious given the nature of the NPC character of their followers. but yeah, initially it seems quite counter intuitive. and its not like many of them were actually voting for creepy nejing jao bie dein or kamallawalla. they mostly know they were placeholders for the deep state establishment. i know, right? anything for the cause! or styled another way BAMN, "by any means necessary".

@Dja05 yes, in retrospect, that seems likely. and for sure, we are definitely living in the "crazy years". i find myself opining much of late of my "golden years" of my youth and how much the us has degenerated since then. then it occurs to me of my older, "greatest generation" friends and mentors opining of their "golden years" of their youth and lamenting the craziness of my "golden years". it makes one wonder how good their "golden years" must have been to make mine look like "crazy years" to them.

@Cyricist001 who said it was collectivism vs liberalism decides. with the caveat that every collectivist society i can think of at the moment has implemented conscription. i would say its part of their doctrine. i certainly agree with the last part of your statement as history has borne this out. look at the german vs russian approaches to armor. only when russia got production going and had technologically advanced designs did they move (somewhat) to a quality approach. even so, they still went for quantity when resources allowed it.

@Cyricist001 kind of my point. in the army, absolutely. they cant bear children for the reich if theyre dead. into having those children, or home economic duties, not so much. he had no problem then. thats what i was saying. do you even read what i post? no kidding. though i suspect a desperate nation will still resort to mass conscription if they feel it will help their situation. yep. which is a logical extension of special forces, and specialized assault troops when married with such power armor. and also quite useful in prosecuting short, sharp wars to dissuade and aggressor from continuing a war and making peace. ie no forever war.

read the source material. you seem to have made the same mistake verhoven and company did misunderstanding it and its intentions. the book has nothing, what so ever, to do with militarism or facism, or any kind of totalitarianism. i mean, have you ever heard of any kind of authoritarianism that encourages its populace to learn more information, admitted to a military debacle instead of trying to cover it up, held its leadership accountable for said debacle, and not only allowed, but actively discouraged people from joining the military? reading heinleins book, if anything, its society comes off as a libertarian paradise. and a small but important correction. not only military service granted a citizen the franchise but ANY CIVIC SEVICE, as well. in the book a grizzled old vet discusses how, if a prospective citizens only talent was counting hairs on a caterpillar, they would set up make for for them to do so while simultaneously doing everything in their power trying to get the individual to quit. sargon of akkad did a video breaking it down way better then i could. give it a watch.
