CO2 has been over 7000ppm in the past and over 5000ppm in the not so distant past. NASA says the Earth is greening due to rising levels of CO2 in the atmos[here. It's available on his website in PDF form and should be required reading for anyone discussing energy. All the examples he gives are UK specific and he goes into details and specifics, but nothing that could be understood by someone in primary school. He goes over all of the problems (challenges) involved and presents the trade offs with each "there are no solutions, only trade offs". And he shows all of the work, so there is nothing to argue for or against other than back of the napkin math.

  50. Start by calories. Budget 2,000cal/person per day. Last time I checked a couple of months ago, a 1 year supply of rice at this level is about $400. Once you have the calories met, THEN you can start thinking about canned goods. Those are much more expensive and not as nutrition dense. Pinto beans are about the same price and high in protein dense. Another low cost option is feed corn from a farm supply store. Learn how to nixomalize it and grind to make tortillas. If you learn how, you csan live very well on little money

  55.  @MattPSU02  I had an old friend who'd been a high up at NASA and funded a lot of their projects. He believed in climate change, but only so far as it was a natural occurrence. He funded a lot of the scientists (as in signed the checks) and said that it was all about the money. The scientists wanted faster computers to run their models and he was one of the reasons Cray existed. You can make a model say anything, and there was more money in making come to certain conclusions.

You're talking hundreds of plants. The amount of effort to get to 10% might be better spent on purchasing grains for calories. One year of calories is on the order of $400-$500. That's about 70 hours of minimum wage effort. Not even close to the amount of effort required to grow 300 tomato plants to harvest, not to mention the preservation. Brochette is a nice addition to a bread only diet though.
