  16.  @DogBeast221  Food is inexpensive, at least in the US, if you cook from scratch and avoid the processed garbage. Chicken is $0.87/lb, flour/bread is $0.40/lb, tomatoes are ~$1/lb, if you have a small yard, you can easily grow vegetables. I remember my parents forcing me to prepare the garden in the first grade (digging out rocks and puling weeds). $20 would feed a family of 5 for a day. It wasn't too long ago that 'a chicken in every pot' was considered a luxury. That's $7k/year. You can buy a house for under $20k all over the US in poorer areas if you are willing to fix it up yourself, it's easily livable.
