  12. Probably my #1 'cultural shock' issue from living a short while in st. petersberg revolved around how people treated money. A couple examples were, off the top of my head because they were the most glaring, was how poor people seemed to be, below even mexico, while at the same time had some of the most expensive clothing I'd ever seen. I could not understand why people didn't save up for a little while to improve their position in life. Like maybe buy a washing machine so that they didn't have to do laundry in the bathtub. There was not a single washing machine in the entire city as far as I could tell. It was little economic things like this that made no sense to me. I never understood it and no one I talked to , and trust me, I asked a lot of people about this could tell me.. I understand it a lot better now.
