  2.  @DarrenSmith-zz6fk  I was reading yesterday that insurance companies in California are refusing to issue new policies making it impossible to get a mortgage on a new home. I'm guessing that a large property company could buy a blanket coverage for structural damage at a significantly reduced rate. Normal home owners are required to take out a $300k policy for full coverage, even though the structure may only cost $50k to replace.
