  2. It's interesting that Plato, Aristotle and Socrates, the philosophical foundations of western civilization all hated democracy. Plato said that democracy as the last stage of government before tyranny.

It's been too long since I really studied this stuff, but the framers of the US constitution understood these things, knew history and knew democracy always ends in tyranny. “A republic, if you can keep it.” --Benjamin Franklin's response to Elizabeth Willing Powel's question: "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?"
