  1. I grew up in the 70's and lost many friends because their parents lost their jobs and had to move. As budding math nerd at age 6, I used to calculate inflation every week when my mom dragged me to the grocery. I vividly remember crying one night to my mom when the price of bread went up to 34¢ because I'd estimated that it would be over $100 and we would starve. This was a few years after the gas crisis, but was still high in the news

  4. I wish I could have had some fraction of opportunity that exists now that didn't when I was younger. genx, but too old to care now. I can do in minutes now what used to take days or months.

  5. Parents can influence how much society kids are exposed to however - no tv or no cell phone, limited computer time, social groups (scouts), clubs, etc.
