From a historical study of weapons and political dynamics, Quigley concludes that the characteristics of weapons are the main predictor of democracy.[11][12] Democracy tends to emerge only when the best weapons available are easy for individuals to buy and use.[13] This explains why democracy occurs so rarely in human history. Hyphenated labels only became a thing in the early-90's. I vividly remember arguing at the time that it would lead exactly to here we are today, before then I don't remember it being an issue outside of speech and debate or an English class paper topic. "Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism. They use every opportunity to impugn democracy." --Wallace

How to reject reality and substitute your own: The first stage is a faithful image/copy, The second stage is perversion of reality, The third stage masks the absence of a profound reality, The fourth stage is pure simulacrum, in which the simulacrum has no relationship to any reality whatsoever. Simulacra and Simulation by Jean Baudrillard

Binary is the result of centralization. America was founded as decentralized control. Those who wish for power seek centralization. Centralization offers great benefits. Think of the MacOS vs linux. One person is ultimately in control of MacOS. No one is in control of linux.

When debt is money, the only way to pay off a debt is with more debt. With a Ponzi scheme, the only way pay off investors is to bring in new investors. With no new investors, the fraud is exposed and the entire system falls.

@bobsmith5185 Wallace wrote that in 1944 Yes, much of what he warned about is being realized today.

Fascism recognizes the real needs which gave rise to socialism and trade unionism, giving them due weight in the guild or corporative system in which divergent interests are coordinated and harmonized in the unity of the State.

If you believe that the world is evil, may as well make it ugly too

@aide-toietlecieltaidera3724 Interesting. He sounds like the prototype for Moulder on the X-Files. I really don't know much about conspiracy theories other than joking about them. Or even gnosticism for that matter, but long story short, I have a long list of historical coincidences that I kept (as another inside joke with a friend), then I saw tikhistory referral to Lindsay and I was like oh crap, I know all of this stuff without knowing it. Now I am unhealthily obsessed with it hahahahaha.

I think Nietzsche thought so. And Oswald Spengler but it's more about religion than Christianity. Politics may be downstream from culture, but culture is downstream from religion and whether they were practicing explicitly or esoterically, western civilization is based on Judeo-Christianity. TPTB seem intent on replacing this foundation. I think either with Islam or their own transhuman gnosticism. I'm betting on the later with the former being weaponized.

It's gnostic belief. "The real you is what you feel at the moment, not what you physically are". It is the destroyer of civilizations cult

This sounds exactly what socialists do. Maduro is worth 300X that of the average Venezuelan. That would be on par with the US as a leader with $37M

haha. Type run. Machine goes byebye. Hours of work lost. All the 80's kids were making video games at the age of 12 (or younger).

@IronMan-tk8uc Something like how he was a far lefty but after living abroad and returning to the US he was to the right of Joe McCarthy, but has mellowed since then. Something like that.

@bloodaid I disagree that individuals define the character of a group an visa versa. That said, Islam is a totalitarian ideology as written in their foundational documents, I don't know if this exists for any other organization.

@MrDanielvass There's a question of short term vs long term first. Nobody is going to starve to death, but there's a great risk of losing freedom for generations long into the future. And with todays technology and levels of control, it might be for the rest of human species.
1
@MrDanielvass I have read a lot of stories of nurses and doctors being fired for refusing to go along with mandates. Pretty much everyone.

@impudentdomain In the 1880's, the elite created private "societies" to gradually to reform society back into feudalism, to “REMOULD IT NEARER TO THE HEART’S DESIRE". Through education and dominance of other social institutions, they've largely succeeded. Especially in the economic sphere. "The best way to destroy the capitalist system was to debauch the currency". Fiat money was the proposal by Marx.

The real push will be to get people to accept "AI" as people. Then give it voting rights. A small group will control what the "AI" "thinks".

I worked and saved for literally years to buy things that you can now find for free on craigslist. I was pretty motivated and worked very hard, crating businesses and making the inflation adjusted equivalent of thousands of dollars in grade school. There is no motivation to work now. Most of my friends quit working in their 30's and 40's when their houses were paid off.

@richard7645 If you think so, try to see how long you could survive anywhere naked and with no tools or anything else provided by other people. Most would not make it very far without those mankind provided sketchers and uber eats.

@kennethvalbjoern In the US comedy was huge and everywhere growing up in the 80's. My friends had Steve Martin and Monty Python records, music was also huge. Life had a soundtrack to it. When I went to Russia, I think there was one radio station that played 24/7 classical music. It was ok, but no other option. It was a common joke/trope hat the USS did not have comedy except for that yakov smirnov guy
