  1. I built an off grid solar powered homestead because I've been interested in solar (and energy) ever since I got a solar cell to play with in the second grade. I studied physics and electrical engineering in college, so I knew the theoretical and wanted to learn the practical side of things. I was involved with a few solar/sustainable web groups untl about 10 years ago where I could offer advice to people who were interested in that sort of thing. Then I made the comment that I was doing it as a learning experienceand to save money, not save the planet at which point i became persona non grata.

Nuclear submarines and the space station, where the atmosphere can be absolutely controlled and where human optimal performance is desired above all else, is kept at a relative CO2 concentration of 5000ppm. 13X current atmospheric levels. If we burn all the fossil fuels we have left in the ground, that’s about 10-15,000Gt of carbon that we could put in the atmosphere. That gives us 5x the CO2 from 1950, or 1,400ppm.
