Unless you live on a farm and grow potatoes or wheat, it's practically impossible for the average person to grow a significant amount of food at home.

@backacresalaska2272 I agree, but people should not go out and buy a pack of cucumber seeds and feel they have things covered. I know a lot of people from eastern european countries with dachas, generations of experience who find it difficult to feed themselves in bad times. It's not that easy. A lot depends on where you live and local growing conditions. Not to mention its probably too late to start this year. A few hundred dollars of store able grains is more efficient time wise than living from a garden.

Why home depot? ,I've gone to machine shops and had parts made. Most cities have machine shops...and if you want to get fancy, foundries.

@flyingspirit3549 Many online services already do this and mail you the part next day.

@bobp4036 It's more efficient and better quality to use an online service

@backacresalaska2272 I'm talking about calories. You can go a whole year without micronutrients (sprouts), but only a few weeks without calories. Not only that, but you're pretty incapacitated without calories. And these are the hardest thing to produce. The ocean is probably the best resource you can have
