@joecummings1260 He's a rich geek who likes to play with his ideas. I know a few people like this sans the billions. If you can make your hobbies make money to be self supporting, all the better. Remember his original goal was not to make humans a 'muli planetary species', but to put a planetarium on he surface of Mars to see if the plants would live, but had to start a rocket company when the Russians wouldn't sell him one. Many people in the industry knew it was possible, but held back by management who did not see it as a viable business. This is a common problem in industry. See _The Innovator's Dilemma_.

@meamzcs Look up DCX. I knew it was possible in college (engineering). If it is physically possible, the rest is an engineering project, and not a lot of engineering had to be invented (like material science). The main development I'd guess is the rocket engine and control software.
