I found the bull culture around Arles, France very interesting. The bulls are a smallish black breed with big horns. They live at free range -- there are signs up warning drivers, and the villages have signs up reminding that the appearance of a bull might happpen. The Camargue horses also live free range. I think the bullfighting season is October. Traditionally, the bulls are not spiked or killed. Colored strings are tied to their horns and the objective is to pluck off the strings. They want to pick the most agile, smart and strong bulls because it raises their market value for breeding. After a fight the bull returns to pasture with its higher rating. Unfortunately, in the huge arena in Arles which looks like the Colosseum in Rome (and is Roman) audiences seem to want blood. You can go to local farm and village events to see riding and bull demonstrations. Bull meat tastes good and has to be flash seared. So eventually, the animals are killed for meat, hides and other parts. Hey, in the Roman theatre nearby, people had sex and got murdered in the performances. Bloodlust, really. Back in the day, a thumbs up meant "kill" and a thumbs down meant "spare the life."

It isn't high-functioning autism. It is a developmental disability, is genetic, kicks in within hours of conception. The classification has been changed and it's no longer in the autism category. Autism seems to set in after birth and is related to something toxic, such as a vaccine, or other outside thing after birth. Asperger's is usually passed from father to son, but does occur in females. Sometimes called "idiot-savants," which is not correct. They tend to be focused on a passion, such as the history of one thing, and can cite incredible detail about it. They find it hard to establish and maintain relationships, are highly biddable. Have a hard time functioning fully, may have speech quirks, be loquacious, can absolutely work but need a constantly structured environment. The absence of ability to pick up on social cues is apparent. Often extremely clumsy. Frequently have little or no conception of time, so require supervision. Tend to talk at people rather to them, problems with empathy. Vulnerable, as they are not usually hard to take advantage of. May appear intelligent or bright, can fake it frequently for a time. Have problems with certain things, such as sounds, textures, it's a processing problem. Easy victims. Many people say they've been diagnosed with autism and actually it's Asperger's, which is not autism. Hope this helps.

I remember when it was 50% for the wealthy, until Reagan was elected. It was actually worn as a badge of pride and all the ones who were rich I met were glad to pay -- they just went and made MORE money! Here in France, it could be considered at 75% for the rich, but that's not the whole picture, as you have to quantify in other factors, such as the quality of life they get for it, et c. One benefit, the stipend for each child, is not means-tested, and very few rich want to leave France, despite what the media may say. People die to GET here, few want to LEAVE here. France is far from perfect, however. If you're very poor here, you are free from income tax but if you insist on luxuries, the VAT will get you, and everyone must pay an "inhabitation tax," and a TV tax, and so on. The middle classes even get a sliding scale, and if you watch what you spend on, you can keep the VAT bite down. Poor, working and middle classes here qualify for excellent subsidized housing. It isn't dreadful, generally -- people long to get into an HLM. I've lived through five major recessions in my life, on two continents, and started to see the American middle class whupped starting in the early '70s. I hear you on your points. When working poor and middle classes are crushed, that's a house of cards.

Hi, dog! :) No, they are not sure about the vaccines, but I do know a man whose perfectly normal kids, two of them, immediately became autistic after vaccination. He had discussed it with his wife and was opposed to it, but she wanted it, so they did it, and they are both really, severely autistic and need CONSTANT care. It really seems likely to be linked with toxicity. It's just exploded in many countries, especially ones with fluoridated tap water. Please don't swear at me or be rude, it isn't necessary. You can always contradict me, but please be polite.

"No," not "nah." (I am teasing you -- good comment in a way ... ) I was born in '57, poor, white, sickly (foetal alcohol syndrome, then a vaccine), female -- statistically the worst things to be in the USA. I had no idea, which is probably a good thing. I was so naive and obtuse, when I got tired of having no coat, no food and being shown the door at 18, endured five years of vagabondage and have been homeless three times in my life on two continents, it's just as well I didn't realize my own limitations. Greetings from France via the USA (Ohio). Good luck, Ben.

Horrible, but a good clip, well done, have to uprate and share it. I remember in NYC, at the NE corner of East Tenth Street and First Avenue, there was until surprisingly recently a place featuring bear-baiting! There were dog-against-rat places, with tons of dogs and rats buried in the cellar, raw boxing, McGurk's Suicide Hall, all kinds of stuff. I could see the remnants of some of it in the '70s and was able to get into some of the places and see the old ceilings, fixtures, wow! I recall on Avenue of the Americas (Sixth Avenue) at 24th Street I think it was, there was a building where I noticed an elaborate inscription up high, chiseled in, indicating a place with an arrow. It was a famous bordello. I recommend the book LOW LIFE by Luc Santé.

Not a good idea to operate machinery on weed. Nor do anything requiring good coordination. Some people do not tolerate marijuana. Some people, it makes them sleepy, depressed, nauseous. I've seen this. Some others get paranoid on it. I knew one guy who smoked a little then stabbed his father 100 or so times for no reason. The father survived, but mutilated, his life ruined. The son, in prison and with psychiatric evaluation, has no idea why smoking a little pot did that to him. He agrees, it was without cause. I smoked for years but if I overdid it, I noticed a strange chillblain type thing on my front ankles. I found another frequent smoker, male, who had the exact same thing happen to him. He had been smoking a lot, too. As soon as we cut back, the problem cleared up, never to return in either of us. I quit permanently over 20 years ago. Too expensive. Demotivating. Altered my judgment. Not badly, but I noted it. I do love hemp oil and use it here in France inside and out. I'm interested in the tincture of cannabis now legal in Belgium for medical purposes -- no way to get high off it. Everyone I knew in the pot business in the States was involved with organized crime, the scary stuff. They were also vehemently against legalization, because it would kill their cash cow. They often colluded to push prices up. It just wasn't worth it anymore. I did find it nice, but it made me lazy, hungry, lusty. :)

Doesn't look like it! My gal pal here in Paris worked in a coffee shop for two years in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, she found that for her, the pot did lead to hard drugs and she realized, I HAVE TO LEAVE NOW! We laugh about it. That's never supposed to happen! She only has a little champagne at Christmas and New Year's and is fine now! That's just her, however. She is from the UK and prefers the Continent, so she's here now and created and set up her own business in France. The coffee shops were super nice. That was the only place you were supposed to smoke, or at home, but I found those shops on a long visit very cool, I'd say, I'm pretty much a non-smoker at this point, I just want something light, what do you suggest? They'd show me the book, with page after page of samples of little bags of pot, hash, seeds, as you liked. They also had them for sale ready-rolled, which was handy! Amsterdam is nice! There is something there for everyone, most likely, even, still! I have one old friend still there, and another good acquaintance right nearby. I recommend Utrecht, also. It's incredible, but book early, it's in high demand! I am a former sex worker in the States and my French spouse had stayed awhile in Amsterdam and had a blast there, he bought his only tattoo and had Hanky Panky do it, he loved the museums, architecture, walking, canals, boating, and the Red Light District, he once went for four in a row! He said everything was nice, clean in the registered places, you be clear what you want, be polite, everything is good. Street hookers, watch out. The Tippelzone didn't work out and is gone. Good shopping, foods of the world, I enjoyed the tramway, it's just fine. I'm sure it's really hurt their tourism there to close the coffee shops! Now, you have to deal with dealers, who wants that?? Be careful about the weather when you go. It's super cold in the Winter and July and August are NEVER for Europe and Scandinavia, it's unbearably hot and crowded and EXPENSIVE! Here in France we go early season, may, and late season, September, twice a year and we have done vacations at other odd times of the year in Alsace, Rome and so on but we researched the weather to be informed. Yeah, good luck after college. I got two degrees in the sciences, with honors, and I can't really say it did me any good jobwise, in fact it was sometimes a problem, but I worked my way through, no debt, and enjoyed the studies despite the pressure, so fine! Amsterdam is likely still a good tourist destination, anyway. Just don't expect to smoke there! I was there in early November, cold but not at all uncomfortable. I think it was a five day long weekend, very stretched out. No idea where to suggest for legal smoking, left the USA 21 years ago, quit smoking EONS ago. Study hard! xo

Really. And I hear you. I grew up in a very cold house and only the kitchen and right in front of the fireplace were warm. Tiny water heater, had to wait and take turns. Ohio. blecch! In the Lower East Side, NYC, in the late '70s, proper heating and hot water were not required of slumlords. Time for the pot of cold water on the gas stove, oven running, burners going! One day it was so cold inside, the water had frozen so bad in the toilet in that cold-water flat, it cracked the toilet!!! I hope this young man can be stronger from this and that people can learn from this. This clip is pretty educational! If you have a criminal record in France ... even your distant relatives may not be able to get the jobs they apply for, also if anyone is in debt trouble. Kids who commit crimes are usually taken from the parents and not given back (often) -- and they cannot ever get certain jobs, even basic ones, ever. I actually know some abused adults (as children) who were in foster care here in France, even one in a full orphanage all her young life, and the foster care people said it was good and it was just worse if they were returned home! The orphanage lady, I have a clip up named GILBERTE you might like! xoxoxoxoxo

You may have to do some research yourself, get hard copy of the findings, and share it with doctors. I had to do that over here in France to end a long depression of ten years. (I am American-born.) I found something unusual we could try, I got them the documentation in French, was specific about what I felt would work, and they all agreed, yes, short term under supervision, I could try it. Bingo! Gone in two days, completely gone in two weeks (apparently, 2% of the population will respond to that and are otherwise treatment-resistent). My usual treatment stopped by the end of the six weeks we'd all agreed on. I knew a guy for decades with Asperger's, undiagnosed until he was in his late 50s. Very sad. He really had it, too, BIG TIME. He'd suffered all his life and also did damage, inadvertently. Didn't have a mean bone in his body. He kept INSISTING he was okay. He just COULD NOT SEE IT! I really hope you can sort it out with them. Don't give up, please. Hit the books!
