  1. ***** I know.  The businesses I worked in kept money in two places.  Plenty to give up if shaken down or robbed, but not all in one place.  If it came to that, they just gave it up.

  2. ***** Agreed.  Even when negotiating for a cash deal, it's best to show up with the amount you'd actually prefer to pay, which is less, and say that's all you could raise.  If there is negotiation, you can then reluctantly pull out some more from elsewhere and say, this is for my bills this season!  And the rest is in a third place.  I was mugged in NYC on my birthday in '81.  Subway mugging.  I'd happened to have 400 USD in my handbag.  Apparently (I was unconscious) they were delighted and took that, threw the bag in a trash can nearby and I got it back within 24 hours from the police, including a bag of weed, which they didn't care about!  I was annoyed to lose the cash, and normally did not carry that amount but I was on my way to settle some bills in cash on a special day, so really, I just accepted it.  Besides a bruised face and being locked out of my apartment for awhile (some transit cops helped me break in via a fire escape!) I just chalked it up to education.
