The original French connection was set up by the US govt in '30 to keep out French Communists because they were for workers' rights. It was the FAST AND FURIOUS of its day, an abject flop, our nation was flooded with heroin, and we continue to be brainwashed against Communism. This is largely what the USA was like in the 1920s. We wrongly think of them as "The Roaring Twenties" but around '94 I read a good book about the Great Depression and what life was like for the average American worker, if they could even find and keep a job cuz there was no protection whatsoever, was a bleak, hopeless grind. I recall my grandparents talking about it. I was born in the '50s and my father was born in '29. Your comment is quite good -- I suggest you look into what I describe.
