Speaking as one who spent nine years at university and taught at university level, I know of nobody who talks down to those working in trades or anything else. I wish people would stop thinking this way. It isn’t true and it encourages the concept of elitism. I worked hard in blue collar jobs to get my education. I didn’t look down on my coworkers and I was always happy to help them if they asked. The belief that university educated people look down on blue collar workers in simply untrue. The irony of it all is that my degrees - I have two - qualified me to work in an industry where the pay and conditions used to be good but are now appallingly low. I would have made three or four times as much as a tradesman (and you need to go to school to get that qualification anyway).
