I have to thank you for this. I am 65 years old. When I was a kid I was hopeless at maths. I was streamed out of it aged 14 and put into the humanities stream, some of which I enjoyed but I wish I could have done the STEM subjects. I followed what you did and almost unbelievably, I understood it. I have believed for a few years now that my problem wasn’t just me. Yes, I was part of it because I’ve got Asperger’s ADHD and number form and time-to-space synæsthesia (incredibly rare). I was very distractible. What I needed was a maths teacher who could motivate me. I never really learnt the rules properly but when you cancelled the 2 top and bottom, I knew you were going to do it before you did it! I also guessed that Pythagoras was going to be a part of it. If I could find someone to teach me maths now I reckon I’d jump at it. Apart from anything else, it’s a fantastic brain exercise. But not only that, it has life applications. I needed ChatGPT to calculate something for me the other day and I just ignored the calculations because I just assumed I wouldn’t understand them. Now I want to know. All I need is the rule book.
