@FreeMind5094 Not really because proper testing has things like measurements to be checked after each dive to make sure nothing has moved or deformed. It seems like the only measurement was whether or not they made it back to the surface.

Great explanation from someone who actually does know what he's talking about. I have wondered for a long time what the safety margin was. Was it 1.1? 1.5...? Now it seems that with this hull, a safety margin would have been impossible to calculate because of potential voids, or uneven spacing of fibres. It's easy to say after the fact but as one who has been involved in competitive sailing for over 35 years, I know at least a little bit about composite structures myself. All boats are designed with a safety margin - both hull and rigging - and this has to be carefully scrutinised. I can't believe some of the things Ocean Gate said in that blog post. Not now that you've highlighted the problems, anyway. Good video. Well done.
