  2. Zh L Sorry for what. None of the sports facilities in my country are private sector. Never have been. It works for us and we are sport mad here. The only private sector facilities are tennis clubs, golf clubs and yacht clubs. Even then there are public tennis courts and golf courses. The private sector model doesn’t work here. BTW, I don’t want the Olympics either and yes, cost is one reason. Corruption is another.

  4. Zh L Who is going to build athletic tracks, football and basketball stadiums, swimming pools, horse racing and motor racing tracks... the list goes on. You don’t need the Olympics but you need facilities if sport is going to survive

  5. Zh L They don’t provide. Not in my country anyway. There are no private football stadiums, athletic tracks or horse racing facilities. Our private sector is simply not capable of providing those things and couldn’t do it at a competitive price anyway.

  6. Zh L Australia. We have council-built facilities which operate at a profit. Why should you pay for it? Because you benefit from it, both directly and indirectly.

  7. MsSunhappy If you mean wealthy countries, then yes. If you mean wealthy sectors of society, it depends. Anyone can play football. Not many can play polo.
