@taylorhession1905 "Do yourself a favor and Google "Why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor?" I assure you that you will see nothing stated about oil." It most certainly did. The Japanese wanted to plunder the Philippines for oil and rubber but it was partly occupied by the Americans. To get the Americans out of the Philippines meant an invasion and to be sure it would succeed meant having to knock out the American Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor.

@taylorhession1905 Japan’s military actions in the Pacific were about oil (and rubber). Without a specific goal, Japanese military action would have been completely pointless. Rather than turning to Google, I suggest Gordon Prange’s ”At Dawn We Slept”, pp. 169-171.

@antefran238 Yes it would. Seriously, what could Trump have done? All the seeds were already sown for this about 18 months ago. If you want to take it back far enough, the last international missions in Afghanistan were in 2014, during the Obama era. After that the Afghans were doing their own fighting with equipment provided by the West. Most of the negotiations happened during Trump's period in office. The trouble was, they were already losing the war and they knew it. There wasn't much they could do. They asked the Taliban if they could have two airfields. The Taliban said no. The speed at which it happened caught everyone by surprise. In an article written only last week, the Pentagon and government advisors predicted that the Taliban would be on the outskirts of Tehran in about a month "at this rate". Five days later, they were there. The fact that it happened so quickly meant there was no time to organise a proper evacuation.

@joshtato1428 You don't know much about Afghanistan. It isn't what you think.
