I don’t fully agree. There might be a bit of that in Philips but they were still taking risks that didn’t work. That suggests engineers rather than beam counter. On the other hand, they sold off profitable lines, which suggests they forgot what their core business was. That suggests MBAs and bean counters. But maybe the biggest problem was they forgot who their market was.

Do you know anything about your market? Why do you think you know more about it than someone whose job it is to understand it? So, in fact, the arrogance you refer to as something other people do is as much a factor for you as it is in what you project.
