@ppsarrakis Respectfully disagree. Yes, the sum of the energy of the parts is essentially the energy of the whole. We agree there. Yet the effect of a shower strike being less than the effect of a pile strike is entirely debatable. We need to consider alternative methods of deflecting asteroids. Any substantive strike can be existentially dangerous. I'd prefer a solution that avoids the strike entirely, instead of a pile strike or a shower of rock. Popping off nuclear weapons may be all we have right now, but frankly, it isn't a good solution.
