  1. I believe that to be a sacrificial plug for the big guns. Kept sea water out, which would cause corrosion. As the first shot was fired, the plug would disintegrate under the near instantaneous creation of over pressure. And that is what you see.

  2.  @gregorywright4918  In the title sequence, you can see the plugs in the guns, right about the 0:06 mark. You may have to pause the video to see them, but they are there nonetheless! Cheers!
